My Coaching Philosophy

Preparation leads to Confidence = Success.

According to my experience, the first part of success is preparation. In high school and college, I would go into game day feeling like nobody could stop me. Preparation would start in the offseason and finish in my final throws before I took the field for the first snap. Knowing that I worked hard allowed me to fully focus on the game and believe in my abilities. One of my main goals for training is more than just getting athletes ready physically, but mentally training them to believe that they can do it.

As I stated above, preparation leads to confidence. It all starts with believing in yourself, without it, this is a tough sport to succeed at. The more times kids see me, the more their confidence and belief in themselves elevate. I am not saying your athlete has to train with me three times a week to be successful. This applies to anything in life, the more you train at something, the easier and more confident you become. I try and instill as much confidence and belief in my athletes as I can. As a former athlete, I have experienced both sides of this and can promise you this, there is nothing better than having a coach believe in you.

My ultimate goal with each athlete is to get them to play “free”. When you allow yourself to have full belief in your ability, success shows up. I focus so much on details because, as most know, football is a game of inches, so little details add up quickly. During sessions, I constantly stress little things because they matter, but I would never want them worrying about them on game day. Football is the ultimate team game and being able to play freely is when the fun begins.

One of my favorite stories is about working with a kid who never had quarterback training. He had doubts as we started from the basics, but we worked hard all spring and summer preparing him for his first season of tackle football. He ended up winning the starting spot and leading his team to the playoffs. You could see the confidence when he took the field because he knew it was time to show off the work he put in. This sealed my belief in my philosophy.

“When you have confidence, you can have a lot of fun. And when you have fun, you can do amazing things.”
